Stephen Slaughter has been a resident of the Kansas City area for the good part of his life. At Missouri S&T he obtained a Bachelors of Science in Biological Sciences, and at Mahidol University he gained a Masters of Science in Environmental Biology. During his graduate school period, he resided in Thailand for a good period of the 2010s; in that time, not only was he reacquainted with the culture of the region, but he was witness to pivotal moments such the 2013 protests, 2014 coup, and death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej in 2016.
As a Thai-American, he played an active role in the Thai Cultural Center of Greater Kansas City, which connected the area’s Thai community with the wider populace through outreach and events like the Ethnic Enrichment Festival; it was through the TCC that he came to play an active role in the IRC since 2018. Currently he is an educator at the Kansas City Zoo, as well as a freelance photographer.
