Global Conversations that Matter

Maintaining an active dialogue around world events and their local impact

The IRC offers a range of programs to grow your global perspective and introduce you to international connections within and beyond our Kansas City community. We warmly welcome your involvement and look forward to connecting you with the world.

Our Mission & Vision

The International Relations Council strengthens Kansas City’s global perspective by maintaining an active dialogue around world events, global issues, and their impact on our community. As a nonpartisan, educational nonprofit organization, the IRC values informed civil discourse, accessibility, and substance as we work to sharpen our community’s 21st-century global acumen.

Our vision is a globally informed, engaged, and active Kansas City community that welcomes diverse perspectives and connects through a sincere desire to contribute to our shared future.

Our National Network

The International Relations Council is a part of a national network known as the World Affairs Councils of America, with 93 chapters across the United States of America. Through other chapters in our council network, IRC members have access to travel and educational opportunities. Do feel free to explore the WACA website to learn more about the organization and the councils across the country which make up its membership!

In January 2023, IRC Executive Director Matthew Hughes will be stepping into his new role as President/CEO of WACA. In the six and a half years that Matthew spent as Executive Director of the IRC, Matthew oversaw the organization’s expansion, introduced innovative offerings, and broadened our collaborative partnerships. Matthew’s tenure as Executive Director has been transformational for the IRC, and we are delighted that he will continue to support the mission and vision of the IRC on a national scale.
