Dear friends,

I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend! We have an abbreviated newsletter this week to share just a few key updates, but we'll have the full newsletter, including upcoming community events, back next week.

Please save the date for Monday, September 25, when Ambassador Ross Wilson, former U.S. Ambassador to Turkey and Azerbaijan, will be visiting Kansas City. We'll have a program with him at Polsinelli on the Plaza from 6:30-8:30. Ambassador Wilson will offer perceptive remarks on the region and take your questions. This will be an ideal program for students to attend, as well, especially to learn more about life in the foreign service.

We recently received the exciting news that His Excellency Gerónimo Gutiérrez, current Mexican Ambassador to the U.S., will be in Kansas City on Thursday, October 26. We are still finalizing details, but a ticketed lunch and an afternoon business roundtable will be likely parts of the Ambassador's visit. The Mexican Consulate and the IRC both hope that these events will involve a wide range of businesses and organizations, so please do contact Matthew » with any ideas and save the date for these special events.

The 2017 Berkley Award, each year presented to an exceptional high-school junior or senior who has demonstrated superior academic interest and competence in international studies, is now open for applications. The award includes a $500 scholarship, and the awardee will be recognized at the Global Honors Evening on Thursday, November 9. More information and application instructions can be found on our website ». Please share this opportunity with any high-school teachers or students you might know.

We're excited that registration for the Global Honors Evening on Thursday, November 9, is now open – for both individuals and sponsoring groups. Please join us as we celebrate Kansas City as a global community and recognize General Richard Myers, the Consular Corps of Greater Kansas City, and UMKC. Full information is available online », but do call with any questions. We look forward to seeing you there!

Kind regards,
Matthew Hughes, Executive Director • 816-423-2632
