Dear friends,

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Commerce Bank for last week's networking hour, and special thanks to Brian Gordon and everyone at Commerce for making the event possible. We love the way these networking hours allow our organizational members to share about their work with the community, and we're always looking for new venues. If your organization would be interested in hosting an IRC networking hour, please be in touch ».

We're all set for the next installment of the IRC Book Club, which on Tuesday, September 12, will be discussing Edward Luce's new book, The Retreat of Western Liberalism. Please join Jack McLaren, JCCC Director of International Education Tom Patterson, and others from the Kansas City community for the conversation. More details and a link to register are available below.

By now I hope you've heard that eleven past IRC presidents pledged more than $10,000 to the IRC – and they've challenged the community do the same. Please help us reach our goal by donating today ».

There are some new events on the community calendar I hope you'll check out. A notable event is the upcoming Ethnic Enrichment Festival, where the IRC will have a booth alongside sixty cultural and ethnic groups from around the Kansas City area. Please join us!

Kind regards,
Matthew Hughes, Executive Director • 816-423-2632

An incredible network of experienced professionals, travelers, and internationalists in the Kansas City metro area make up the IRC community. With this in mind, the IRC Speakers Bureau facilitates connections between these experts and local organizations, schools, and businesses who are interested in having them speak or present at their events. Many current IRC members are eligible to join the Speakers Bureau as speakers, and the service is free for IRC member organizations. Click here » to learn more, sign up to be a speaker, or request a speaker for your upcoming event.

Great Decisions groups give internationally minded individuals throughout the metro area an opportunity to connect as they explore topics of global significance. Groups affiliated with the IRC set a regular meeting time and location, often over a meal, and use materials prepared by the Foreign Policy Association to lead dynamic discussions. More information about the Great Decisions program, including how to order materials and where and when groups meet, is available here ». Topics for 2017 include the Future of Europe, Trade and Politics, Conflict in the South China Sea, Saudi Arabia in Transition, U.S. Foreign Policy and Petroleum, Latin America’s Political Pendulum, Prospects for Afghanistan and Pakistan, and Nuclear Security.
