Dear Evan,

Thanks to everyone who joined our second International Film Club discussion last evening, this time with Academy Award-winning screenwriter and Kansas native Kevin Willmott. It was a remarkable opportunity to peel back the layers of the 2020 film Da 5 Bloods and examine so many overlapping realities. Next month, on Tuesday, August 25, please join us for a discussion of the winner of the 2020 Academy Award for Best Picture, Parasite, led by KU Assistant Professor Joo Ok Kim.

In two weeks, we'll be joined by University of Notre Dame Associate Professor Victoria Tin-bor Hui for a look at Hong Kong and the future of promised autonomy. To prepare for the program, you might check out this primer from the BBC – and do bring your questions with you. We thank Hallmark for their generous support of this timely discussion.

Below you'll find information on other upcoming programs – on Ukraine, pharmaceuticals, and careers in water solutions and international trade – and our linguistic tour of Central and South America gets underway in the weeks ahead. We're also very much looking forward to the Choices Election Issues series: please check out these discussions on foreign policy issues that will take us through the eight weeks leading up to the 2020 presidential election.

Thank you for finding ways to get involved with the IRC that are meaningful to you – and for sharing your feedback as you're able. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Kind regards,

Matthew Hughes, Executive Director • 816-897-6474
