Dr. Michael Makara
Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Central Missouri (UCM)  
Middle Eastern politics and current events in the Middle East

Dr. Michael Makara is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Central Missouri (UCM). His published research examines Middle Eastern politics, with a specific focus on civil-military relations and the durability of authoritarianism in the Arab world.  He lived in Jordan for two years as a research fellow with both Fulbright IIE and the American Center of Oriental Research (ACOR). Dr. Makara teaches a variety of courses related to the Middle East, including Middle Eastern Politics, the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, and a course on resource politics titled Oil, Water, and Security. He is also the Principal Investigator for Mideast meets Midwest, a project funded by the U.S. Department of Education that aims to develop the Middle Eastern Studies program at UCM, Southeast Missouri State University, and Missouri State University.
