"Closing the Global Gap" is a series of conversations designed to address perceptions and realities of working and living across culture and language. The series is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by Johnson County Community College and International Relations Council. The series should stimulate meaningful conversations based on personal experiences in foreign countries from academic and business points of view. Each program will feature a JCCC faculty member or student as well as a professional from the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area.

 

Closing the Global Gap: India will look at the role of women in responding to social and environmental issues in India, as well as the day-to-day struggles and experiences of people living in this diverse country.

 

This event is open to the public and is free with RSVP. 

 

About the Speakers

Pritha Hariharan serves as Unbound’s International Program Director for Asia and Africa. Previously, she served as regional project director for Asia. She has been with the organization since 2015. Most of Pritha’s prior work was in the telecommunications and technology industries in several capacities. She holds a Bachelor's of Science in Agriculture, earned in India, an MBA from Texas A&M University, and a Master of Arts in Global and International Studies from the University of Kansas. She is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Agile Certified Scrum Master (CSM), and a Six Sigma Green Belt. She is fluent in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Pritha is married with a young son. She was born and raised in India and moved to the U.S. more than 20 years ago. She has lived and worked in India, Canada, and the U.S., and has called Kansas City home for more than 15 years. She has traveled to many countries around the world for both business and pleasure.

 


Gurbhushan Singh was born and raised in Punjab, India. He moved to the U.S. with his family when he was 17 years old. He completed his elementary education while living in a farmhouse in a very small village located in northern India.  The total population of the village was and still is about 200.  Then his parents moved to a town where he completed his middle and high school education. He also graduated from Hickman Mills High School in Kansas City and enrolled at Metropolitan Community College – Longview to further his studies. He later enrolled at Avila University and received a Bachelor's degree in International Business and received a Master’s degree in Finance.  He completed his doctorate studies at Baker University.  He held several positions at the Metropolitan Community College where he worked for 17 years. He joined team JCCC in June of 2017 and serves as the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs.
