Violent protests and turmoil have gripped Ukraine for months. What are the causes? How could a change of government shape the country’s future? Join us March 27 as we go behind the headlines and examine what is happening in Ukraine.

Featured panelists:

Dr. Alexander G. Tsiovkh, PhD - Director of Ukrainian Studies at the KU Center for Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies. A native of Lviv in western Ukraine, Dr. Tsiovkh is a highly respected Ukrainian scholar and lectures frequently on the country’s history and political movements.

Ms. Lidiya Zubytska - a doctoral student in political science at the University of Kansas and native of Ukraine, Ms. Zubytska has regional expertise in Ukraine, Russia, and the European Union. She is researching the influence of mass protests on Ukrainian foreign policy.

Gregory J. Cook - retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel currently serving as an instructor at the Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He was trained by the Army as an Eurasian Foreign Area Officer, and conducted his in-country training in Bosnia and Ukraine.  He has served as a strategist at U.S. Army, Europe headquarters, an arms control inspector in the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, and in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and in the  U.S. Embassy in Moldova.
