IRC ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET 2005

John C. Danforth
Former United States Senator John C. Danforth is a partner with the law firm of Bryan Cave LLP.
In 2004, Danforth represented the United States as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations where he focused on ending the North/South civil war in Sudan, a 20 year conflict that killed two million people and displaced five million others. President Bush appointed Danforth as Special Envoy to Sudan in 2001. A peace agreement between the two sides was ultimately signed in Nairboi, Kenya on January 9, 2005.
The Annual Awards Banquet was held at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown on December 13, 2005. The reception and cash bar began at 5:30; dinner and program began at 6:30. The cost was $75 per person; $750 per table.

Below are highlights of the Awards Banquet 2004.

International Relations Council honored three international leaders who have brought recognition to Missouri and Kansas at its Annual Awards Banquet on December 16, 2004.
Senator Sam Brownback received the award for international understanding. Senator Brownback is a member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee and chairs a subcommittee on Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs. Senator Brownback was the keynote speaker and his address was βChallenges and Opportunities in Asiaβ. Senator Brownback has taken an active role in developing U.S. foreign policy concerning India, Pakistan, Central Asia, and Iraq. He also advocates for trade policy supporting U.S. agricultural exports in the international marketplace. Raised on a family farm near Parker, Kansas, Senator Brownback has a B.S. degree in agricultural economics from Kansas State University and a law degree from the University of Kansas.

Consul General Takao Shibata as representative of the Consulate General of Japan's former Kansas City office received the award for outstanding community service and promoting international understanding. The Consulate General of Japan at Kansas City contributed 20 years of service to Kansas City.

Benny Lee, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Top Innovations, Inc. received the award for contributions to international business. In 2003, Top Innovations was selected by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce as one of the βTop 10 Small Businesses of 2003β.
