Global Connections

Students Listening to Speaker

Global Connections provides volunteers, both IRC members and Kansas City area citizens, who share their international experience and expertise with a wide variety of schools throughout the Kansas City metro area. Global Connections speakers are available on a wide variety of topics and connect classrooms to the world in a meaningful way.

Through these programs:

  • Teachers can supplement lessons with an international point of view.
  • Students can learn first hand how other nationalities live, what traditions are upheld, familial relationships, school life in another culture, music, dance, art and many other aspects of day-to-day life in other countries.
  • IRC speakers inspire participants to want to travel and learn about other cultures. All need to learn that there is a world beyond our borders since they will need to be able to work and function in the global marketplace in the future.
  • IRC speakers break stereotypes/myths about various world cultures. Speakers teach the importance of learning to compromise with people from various world cultures who may look and act differently and have a world vision unlike the American experience.
